Disney Teaser

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

This coming fortnight is shaping up to be crazy busy so I fear my blog may be a little lacklustre for a few days.

Baby_Glitter_Disney

To keep things ticking over and because I can't help but be a proud mama, here is one of my favourite snaps from our family holiday to Orlando last week. I have about eight million more but I'm editing bit by bit in the evenings so be patient my pretties.

Having now experienced the joy of Disney through a toddler's eyes I can fully see why people spend thousands of pounds to go every year and will most definitely be returning as soon as I can. Watching Darcy (or 'Princess Ariel' I should say) wave at parade characters, delight in the little rides and show everybody her new 'pincess mermaid' dress just melted my heart in every which way.

Have you experienced the Magic Kingdom? What was your favourite thing about it? Mine was all the little details.

Biscuits, Bears and Baby Glitter

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Last week whilst at my Auntie Jackie's house filming my Autumn Lookbook, Zoe really kindly took some pictures of Darcy on her swishy camera and I couldn't not share them here.

The bear was given to my Auntie the day she delivered her son Joseph (or 'Joe-fish' as Darcy calls him) who is 12 now and I *think* the rings are Jackie's wedding ones, I'll have to ask.

Either way, these snaps just melt my heart a bit and make me want to get them all framed and give them out as Christmas gifts to the family. What do you think?

Feeling very grown up with a ring on her thumb.

Smiling at 'Joe-fish' who was playing peekaboo.

Joe-fish is too funny!

Kissy-kissy

I know the last one is blurry but hello, a baby kissing a teddy bear, just stop! *Clenches teeth with sweetness overload*

Documenting Darcy's life is such a pleasure to me and I can't wait to have a million more of these perfect little moments.

I hope you are all having a great midweek, I'm sending sparkly hugs your way.

Autumn Playmates

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

With Autumn in full swing we have taken to fully embracing it and being out and about as much as possible. Last week we took our friend's two beautiful Daughter's and Darcy to our local park for a bit of an explore and a run about.

It was so lovely watching Baby Glitter interact with other children and let go of my hand to pursue her own interests. Granted she wasn't going far but it was interesting to see what she wanted to do when she could make her own choices (instead of me guiding her).

We are really thankful to have such sweet little friends in our lives and look forward to more days like this before it gets really really cold!

What kind of things do you like to do with little ones in the Autumn. I'm all ears for activity suggestions!

Motherhood || Monday Insights #4

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Oops, I'm a little late to my own party aren't I? Apologies for that, I was prioritising. Despite telling myself off numerous times this year for allowing myself to stress so much over various things, it's not a personality trait I can change over night so I'm working on it. It was really hard to tell myself to keep the macbook closed and go to lunch with a friend or take a much needed nap, but for doing it I feel so much better.  So, here we have it, a Monday feature on a Tuesday. Heavens above! Will the world stop turning? No. Do I need to worry about this? No. Good. Glad we're all settled then haha!

If you have no idea what's going on or where you are, THIS POST explains what this feature is all about and might be worth a gander.

This week, our topic was-

MOTHERHOOD.

What books/websites/blogs would you recommend to a first time pregnant 26 yr old?

When I was pregnant I absolutely loved the babycentre.co.uk because it is full to the brim with brilliant resources, as well as the book 'What to expect when you're expecting' and a book Mylene Klass wrote about her pregnancy with her first baby, Ava. I now always feel very connected to her because i feel like I shared my pregnancy with her which is a little weird haha.

I want to be a mother when I grow up but I'm terrified of the pain that comes with giving birth. Should I let it scare me out of having my own baby or am I imagining it worse than it really is?

Personally, I don't think you should let it scare you out of having a child when the time is right for you. Yes, it is very painful and yes, it's everything you see it as on TV, but then you are a mother forever. You have created new life and made the most amazing thing. Think of all the days you will be alive and then deduct 1-3 for labour and childbirth. It's worth it.

I know about most of the changes to your body after pregnancy (ie boobies, weight gain, etc.) but how goes it "downtown"? How long does it take to recover? I know it can't be the same as pre-baby but is sex super different? SO AWKWARD!

Haha I feel weird about answering this but I'd tell my girlfriends so why not tell the internet? If you have a natural birth (like I did) then a few weeks. I had stitches so definitely a good few weeks/a couple of months. As for 'doowwwnnntooowwwnn' (and please God don't let me dad ever read this now we're talking about my sex life- ew)- everything is absolutely 100% fine. Without being really graphic, if I were to sleep with a new man (calm down, I'm not gonna), he wouldn't know I'd had a child. I can't feel ANY difference and nor can Matt. Happy days. Don't worry about it at all. Your body is magical.

Were there ever times during pregnancy where you really struggled and wanted it all over with? If yes, how did you cope with those feelings?

If you mean wanted my pregnancy over and for the baby to be born, yes. Toward the end I was very fed up with being so huge and tired and just wanted my body back. I coped by knowing it would soon all happen. If you mean 'over' as in not have a pregnancy or baby at all then I didn't feel that way but my advice to anyone who does would be to contact their midwife and talk their feelings through.

What were some of the things that maybe overwhelmed you about pregnancy/having a child, and what would you say to yourself beforehand to prepare or inform yourself?

This is tricky because I still feel a bit overwhelmed or under prepared sometimes. Things that overwhelm me are mainly practical. Like is she getting the right nutrition, am I stimulating her mind enough with learning play, is she tall/heavy/strong enough etc. If you feel the same way, I can't tell you how mind-resting it is to go to your health visitor or dr. We recently went to ours and I had 30 minutes to talk about all the things I was fretting over and so she gave Darcy a good check and she was absolutely fine. I think as Mother's/carers/guardians we worry so much about things we perhaps don't need to but it's part of what makes us a mother. If you didn't worry at all, I'm not sure that would be a perfect thing either. Take solice in the knowledge that you are not alone.

What was your biggest worry when you found out you were pregnant?

I worried that I would miscarry as it is such a common occurrence.

Has the fact that you lost your mother young affected the way you are with your daughter? Was that a difficult thing to handle? I ask because I grew up without a father and I am afraid it will be difficult for me to be a parent when I lacked one.

I can completely understand why you are asking this question. In short, yes, it does effect the way I behave as a Mother. Since my Mother died when I was quite young (7), I can't quite imagine what 'being mothered' feels like and so worried I wouldn't know how to take on the role. I look at other daughters and mothers and can't feel what they feel or understand their bond. I remember feeling very loved and cherished by my Mum but I can't imagine what that would feel like now. Would it be the same as mine and my Dad's bond but more feminine? Would it be like having an unconditional best friend? Would it be ever so comforting? You tell me.

What I do know is this. I wish desperately that I could have a mother who makes me feel worthy, wanted, safe, loved and special. Because those are all the things I would want for myself, I will give them all to my daughter in abundance. To me, that is what a Mother is.

Think of what qualities you miss from not having your Father around and apply them to your own parenting when the time comes. I think you'll do a great job.

How do you tell your friends nicely that baby talk isn't interesting to you without hurting anyone's feelings?

Hmmmmm I think you're walking a thin line there. If you tell them you aren't interested they will be quite offended. Why not try and steer the conversation away gently and get them interested in something else for a few minutes or arrange to do something sans baby? Would you be able to ask the Dad/Grandparents to babysit whilst you and your friends have a night out or go shopping or have lunch?

Failing that you could always try to be subtle and turn it back on yourself. Like, 'Ooohh I wish I had a baby too sometimes so I could be a bit more involved in these conversations. Sometimes it's a bit hard to imagine how you feel and what your life is like'. That way you're giving your point but not pinning any blame on them or making them feel bad (even if the wishing you had a baby might be a little white lie). Good luck!

Do you think going on nights out and things like that with your significant other is more fun and exciting before or after motherhood?

Errrm yes and no. Before motherhood you have no ties to things and you are free to be hungover the next day or come back late and not care. Once you have a child you need to be back to relieve the babysitter or you want to avoid feeling like a badgers backside after a few too many cocktails! Saying that though, because time alone with your significant other is so rare after motherhood, it's quite a novelty so you do enjoy it more than before.

Since becoming a mummy are there any special life lessons you have learnt, as a result of raising Darcy?

Not yet but I've only been in the role 2 years so we'll see what crops up. Obviously I've learnt to put someone else before myself and to be a lot more loving and responsible but I think every parent feels that way so couldn't really say they are special to me life lessons. I'll keep you updated.

I'd like to know if you're the kind of girl who knows what she's gonna name her child..and what made you pick Darcy? (I don't know if that's outta context, I'm just curious!)

Before I even met Matt I had chosen my baby names. I was all set when I was pregnant and had my heart set on a few things. Then, the day we got the results of the gender scan, we were driving home from dinner with my Dad and Matt said, 'What about 'Darcy'?' and it just hit me, 'That is my Daughter's name'. I can even remember the exact bit of road we were on and the exact way the sun was setting over the fields when I was hit with such certainty that Darcy would be her name. We have already decided on a girl's name for when we have another baby but boy's names are still up in the air!

What is the most gratifying part of being a mother?

Being a family. I now have my up, my down and my side to side (Dad, Darcy, Matt and my sister) and feel very secure and happy. Darcy completed that for us and we love watching her grow and be such a huge part of our lives. Awwww (feel free to be a bit sick at that).

------------------------------------------------------------------------

And that's all folks! I really enjoyed answering some of your questions and look forward to what you ask for next week. I think there are only going to be 2 more Monday Insights this year, so if you do want to ask something, make sure you get it in this week or next.

Monday Insights #5 will be.... DAY TO DAY LIFE.

This is your chance to ask anything you like about the humdrum, mundane, daily bits and bobs that we get up to in Glitter World. If there is any small thing you have ever wondered, this is the time to ask it!

Baby Zara Haul

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Whilst shopping with Matt and Darcy last week I popped into Zara to see if they had any cute Autumn baby pieces and was happily rewarded with an Aladdin's cave of beautiful fall clothing. Oooh I could've bought the whole shop!

I don't have the tags still on the clothes but as with most things from Zara, I would say they were highend highstreet. For example, the brown boots were £29.99, which compared to H&M, Primark, Tu, Mothercare and Next (our usual stop offs for baby clothing) is quite steep. If you would like to check exact prices or specifications of items, HERE is the website.

Both pairs of shoes are in a size 5 and with Darcy being a size 4 in one foot and 4.5 in the other (very common in little children), she'll be in them as soon as the chilly weather really sets in. The mary jane's remind me of a childhood of buckle-up shoes and woollen tights so I couldn't resist passing down the memories.

Currently she isn't too keen on the felt hat but little by little she is letting me put it on her. I don't want to force her to wear it so at the moment we're talking about it like it's a fun or special toy and she's slowly taking to it. Fingers crossed it becomes a permanent feature because with her little curls peeping through at the bottom it just makes my heart melt.

I plan on filming some kind of Autumn Lookbook or taking OOTD snaps (providing on what the little madam will let me do with a camera- she's very particular these days) so do keep your eyes peeled for that.

What is your favourite item from our haul? Would you like to see more of these on the blog or do you just prefer these in a video format?

Baby Glitter At Two Years

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

It has become quite a tradition in the glitter household to take bi-annual 'proper' photos of Darcy. This week, whilst we still have a glimmer of Summer left, Matt, Clare (our most lovely family friend) and I drove to a local beauty spot and snapped away whilst Baby Glitter fluttered about enjoying all the attention.

Baby_Glitter_2_Years_Old

As well as this fun little type-y print, I also save a 'clean' copy to have put into an album.

I am really treasuring these last days of August and all the little joys it brings with it. I was particularly pleased that I managed to check something off my Summer Bucket List.

Do you mark milestones with fun photography ideas? Tell me about it in the comments please.

A Hidden Gem

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Last week I was looking through our backup drive searching for some blog photos that I have lost.

Whilst I was searching through I found the sweetest photo that Matt took when Darcy was less than a week old and couldn't not share it.

Life goes so quickly. It seems like a second and an eternity since she was this small. I feel like I have been a mother forever and can't imagine a life without my sweet baby girl. Saying that, it still feels like just yesterday that I was graduating university or that we were buying our house. Time is confusing and hard to put your finger on.

I love this picture because it's un set-up, un complicated and full of love. I wish I had a picture like this of me and my Mother.

More and more I find myself wanting another little human in our lives.

What is your favourite memory with your Mother or with you babies?

You Asked Baby Glitter

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Naughty me. I had a week's break from YouTube but I'm back with a big ol' shot of cuteness to put a smile on your face.

For a few weeks I have been asking on Twitter if there was anything you would like Darcy to answer in an interview. Well, as you can imagine, interviewing a toddler is about as easy as frying snow, so it very quickly resulted in a load of gobbledegook. Cute gobbledegook though.

I'm so glad I made this video because I know in years to come I will treasure hearing her sweet baby babble and listening to her little thoughts. She is the apple of my eye and the pep in my step.

What other videos would you like to see with Darcy in?

Darcy's Den

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

I was going to save this for next week because I felt like I should do a beauty review but really, bronzer over baby? I don't think so!

Yesterday Darcy and I had nowhere to go and no intention of getting out of our pijamas so spent the day playing inside. Since her cot is downstairs at the moment and she's using my office as a place to sleep (she sleeps better in there because of the blackout curtains) there is a little unused nook in her bedroom.

It was all very spur of the moment but we decided to build a cosy little den and read some books together. For the 'Mummy Mafia' out there, she was supervised every second of the game and fairy lights are obviously not something she usually has so close to her.

All we did to make this was open up the clothes dryer, drape blankets on top, lay the giant duvet on the bottom and bejewel with ornaments rose lights and, most especially, my wedding veil.

I have my veil displayed in Darcy's room so it was to hand and since she wasn't left alone at any point, I felt OK with it being part of playtime. If you are planning to make this more of an independent activity I would definitely not advise using such precious materials!

Darcy thought her den was the bees knees and stayed in there for about 40 minutes- long in toddler terms!! I just know we're going to make more of these round the house as she grows so I will be sure to share them with you too.

What were your favourite childhood games?

Flamingos and Floaty Skirts

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Last week Darcy and I pootled off on an adventure to Coton Manor Gardens with my Auntie Rose, or 'Wose' as Baby Glitter calls her.

In a nutshell, Coton Manor is a gorgeous ye olde house with the most beautiful gardens you have ever seen- and I'm not even an outdoors kinda gal. With secret ponds and water features, statues, windy paths, herb gardens, ornamental birds, pigs, horses, bluebell woods, and a stable yard cafe, it's just idyllic.

As you walk around, the animals just wander free like something out of a film. You can stand right next to flamingos, have afternoon tea with a parrot and watch as a mummy mallard and her tiny ducklings scuttle passed your feet. Darcy thought it was all brilliant.

I didn't think I was going to be that bothered by the place and partly just agreed to go to take an interest in my Auntie Rose's pursuits but I'm SO glad I did. It's so easy to be swept up in the hustle and bustle of life and work and chores, but to step away for an afternoon and wander around a peaceful, tranquil place where everything seems so relaxed, was just bliss.

The other part of deciding to go was because I thought it might make an interesting blog post for this week's Friday lifestyle feature so I suppose I have you lovely lot to thank. If I didn't have this blog and hadn't starting doing a weekly lifestyle thing then I might've missed out.

I think this is a lovely place to go with people or on your own with a book or just to sit and contemplate a little. It was like a mixture of The Secret Garden and Alice In Wonderland.

Have you been here or anywhere like it before?

Baby Style || Pretty In Pastels

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Since I haven't done an Baby OOTD since THIS ONE in February, I thought it was about time I did another. I tell you what though, making a toddler stand still for long enough to focus your camera is about as easy as solving a problem like Maria (hope you get that Sound of Music fans). In summary, photographing a tot is hard! I'm obviously not going to force her to do it so we're gonna work with what we've got.

Baby Fashion

This photograph was taken at Easter outside our church and is what she wore to the service. We don't always dress up too fancy but since it was a special occasion (good old Jesus rising again etc- don't go mad at me for having a religious moment please), we made an effort.

Pink Hair Clip - H&M
Cream Vest Onsie - H&M
Mint Cable Knit Cardi - Primark
Pink Bow Tutu - Gifted from Marie
Cream Tights - H&M
Baby Blue Sparkle Pumps - Next

I tend to steer Baby Glitter's wardrobe towards pastels because I think they suit her and she's such a little girlie girl that she is happy to wear them. Oooohhh ggaawwdddd I love dressing that kid!

As you can see, all of Darcy's clothes are from highstreet stores (except the gift) and I think they look amazing. If you have the money and you want to go designer then yay, but for us, we love a good bargain! We look in stores, supermarkets, charity shops, consignment fairs and boot sales for clothes and often find absolute gems.

I will do more of these Baby Style posts as and when the kidling permits me to get a good shot of her.

Where do you shop for children's clothes? Do you secretly wish you could wear that cardigan too? I know I do!

Green Fingers?

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

I'm a homebird. I love to be in my house and think of it as my palace. I always feel safe and secure in it and spend hours mooching round websites looking at ways to improve my nest.

Something I have neglected for the past 3 years though is the garden. Matt cuts the grace but that's about it. We don't grow flowers, we don't paint fences, we don't build decking. It's really dismal.

Garden revamp

So, this year we're going into outdoors crackdown mode. I want to enjoy summer outside before I get rickets so we're revamping- on a shoestring! I can't bare to spend money on something so boring. With any luck, a bit of elbow grease and some borrowed tools is all we need.

Garden revamp

I let Baby Glitter come out with me whilst I wandered round deciding which things would be ripped out and where stuff would go and discovered that she LOVES being out in our garden. This has really made me want to make it a magical place for her. I have big plans!

Garden revamp

So, yep, that was a pretty mundane post but then life isn't always jaunts and excitement is it? Sometimes it's playing in the garden in your PJ's and wellies.

If you have garden tips or ideas, feel free to leave them below- I could do with the help!

Baby Glitter is Two!

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

I am the mother of a two year old human. This astounds me. Firstly that I've managed to keep something alive this long (my record with plants isn't too positive) and secondly that it's gone past in the blink of an eye. If they say time flies when you're having fun, I must've had a blast!

As is customary, we held a bit of a get together in her sweet little name and I thought you might like to see some of the snaps. We had quite a full house but since this is the interwebs and the likes of my Mother-In-Law don't quite get it (understatement of the century), I'm just sharing pictures of familiar faces. I'm sure you understand.
